Dear Friends,
Welcome to Faith in Place's 2022 Annual Report, a celebration of the remarkable journey we've embarked upon together over the past year.
This year brought with it an exciting gift and challenge as we joined with Hoosier and Wisconsin Interfaith Power and Light to create a new tri-state Faith in Place serving as the Illinois, Indiana & Wisconsin Affiliate of Interfaith Power & Light. This partnership has amplified our efforts to create meaningful change at the intersection of faith, community, and environmental stewardship across our region.
Combining the efforts of Faith in Place and Hoosier and Wisconsin Interfaith Power & Light has highlighted the power of unity. Our Green Teams have been at the forefront of this journey, leading initiatives that bridge faith and environmental action. From community gardens to energy-saving workshops, their impact has rippled through congregations and neighborhoods, inspiring positive change in countless lives.
None of this would have been possible without the generosity of our donors. Your steadfast support has fueled our work, turning visions of a more just, resilient, and healthy world into tangible realities. With your backing, we've been able to innovate, educate, and uplift, which empowers communities to care for the earth and their community in ways that resonate with their faith values.
As we reflect on the achievements of 2022, we are deeply grateful for unique and creative ways our Green Teams have responded to our ecological and social crises. Our journey continues, and with your steadfast support, we look forward to continuing to be a source of connection, support, and education for our tri-state community.
Thank you for being an integral part of our work. We invite you to explore this Annual Report and share in the joy of all that we've achieved together.
With gratitude,
Rev. Brian J Sauder

Board Chair
Our Theory of Change
When people of diverse faiths and spiritualities engage with a well-coached Green Team, they are empowered to take action to address environmental and racial injustices within their communities. These actions result in healthier, more equitable, and resilient communities.
Our Vision
People of diverse faiths and spiritualities leading the environmental movement to create healthy, just, and sustainable communities for all.
Our Mission
Empower people of diverse faiths and spiritualities to be leaders in advancing environmental and racial justice, providing resources to educate, connect, and advocate for healthier communities.
Faith in Place Green Teams
Green Teams are groups of 3 or more people from a House of Worship who provide cooperative leadership to educate, connect, and advocate for healthier communities. In 2022, Faith in Place continued to grow, and now partners with 216 Green Teams throughout Indiana, Illinois, and Wisconsin.

We do this work through two programs: the Summer Eco-Ambassador Program, which runs from June-August each year, and the Academic Year Eco-Ambassador Program, which runs from September through May.
23 youth ages (14-18) participated in the academic year program and 32 youth participated in the summer program

96% of youth reported an increased awareness of environmental problems and solutions in their local communities

Advocacy
At Faith in Place, we partner with communities to educate and empower them to take action on environmental crises. We also recognize the disproportionate burden these crises have on historically disadvantaged communities and communities of color. We work through advocacy at the municipal, state, and federal levels to ensure justice is at the center of policies and legislation that we support. (View our policy platform here.)
In 2022, we continued our Advocacy work across Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

The Earth Champions program was created to build a sustaining commitment between Faith and Place and the Houses of Worship we serve. Faith in Place provides free resources and support to faith communities to advocate for the Earth. When a House of Worship gives back to Faith in Place with a gift of $100 or more, we celebrate them as an Earth Champion and recognize them on our website and in our Annual Report.
Learn about how your House of Worship can become an Earth Champion here.
